As a name, there’s no hint of what sort of roast it could be, which species of coffee it uses, what region of the world the beans may come from or how which brewing method suits it best.
Is there a real difference between a breakfast blend coffee and regularly named coffee?
The short answer is yes, but the longer answer is slightly more complex.
There aren’t many strict rules that separate a breakfast blend coffee from regular blends in specific terms, but there are a few key factors that breakfast blends typically have in common.
- Origin: Coffee’s flavor is determined not only by which region it’s grown in, but also which species of coffee plant, arabica or robusta, the beans come from. Breakfast blends can include both species and can refer to a mix of two more or regional varieties. The brighter, more acidic flavor profiles of South American beans and the smooth, palatable quality of the arabica species are usually preferred for these blends.
