I love French press coffee. It’s easy to make but still leaves room for the personal touch.

And is there any better feeling than pushing down on that plunger whilst the smell of coffee fills the air?!

The only downside can be a carafe that’s too small. So we’re here to help!

Read on for our round-up of the ten best large French press available now.

The Best large French Press on the Market 2022

1. Café du Chateau Large French Press (8 CUP, 34 OZ)

French Press Coffee Maker - 4 Level Filtration System - 304 Grade Stainless Steel - Heat Resistant Borosilicate Glass by Cafe du Chateau (34 Ounce)

See On Amazon

If you’ve been struggling to decide between the thermal properties of a stainless steel carafe and the joy of watching your coffee brew through glass, the French press from Café du Chateau offers you the best of both.

Its striking design incorporates a glass carafe held within a stainless steel frame. But unlike others with this combination, the steel here is more like a sleeve than a cage.

It’s a stylish look that in theory should help keep your coffee hot for longer too.

To keep stray coffee grounds from entering your beverage, the Café du Chateau employs a four layer filtration system.

There are two filter screens on the plunger, a spring-loaded base plate to seal the edges, and a final filter in the lid. Gritty French coffee should be a thing of the past.

The materials are good quality. The stainless steel is 304 grade, the carafe is made of borosilicate glass, and the plastic components are all BPA-free.

On top of all that, Café du Chateau provide a lifetime parts replacement guarantee.

The one negative here is capacity. It’s not small, but at 34 ounces – that’s eight small cups – there are bigger options out there.

2. Ayoga Large French Press Set (8 CUP, 34 OZ)

Large French Press Premuim Stainless Steel Edition 34oz +7 Bonus Accessories Included, Electric Milk Frother & Mixing Pitcher, Coffee Scoop & Coffee Bag Clip, 2x Espresso Glasses, 3x Mesh Screens

See On Amazon

If you’re just starting out making French press coffee, Ayoga’s set might be a good choice.

Not only is there a smart, stainless steel French press, it comes with a bunch of accessories too.

Included in the pack is an electronic milk frother with stand, a stainless steel milk pitcher, and two espresso glasses.

There’s also a stainless steel coffee scoop with a bag clip incorporated into the handle to keep your beans fresh. And two spare filters and a microfiber cloth for cleaning everything.

All that for the same price you could pay for a French press alone. If you don’t have a lot of this kit already, it’s a smart choice.

Or if you know a coffee lover who’s moving into their first home, it would make a great housewarming present.

If the price is raising questions about quality, be reassured that this French press has some decent specifications.

According to Ayoga, the stainless steel used for the one liter capacity carafe is “military grade”. The outside has a mirrored finish, whilst inside is brushed metal. It certainly looks the part.

And the construction is double walled, keeping your coffee hot for much longer than a glass carafe.

If you’re looking for a stainless steel French press with plenty of accessories, the Ayoga should be on your shortlist.

3. Bean Envy Large French Press (8 CUP, 34 OZ)

Professional Grade 34 oz French Press Coffee Maker & Premium Milk Frother With Stainless Steel Stand - Save Time & Money With Homemade Lattes! Spice Up Your Countertop & Taste Buds Every Morning!

See On Amazon

At a lower price point than other brewers on this list, the Bean Envy is a decent one liter French Press.

It’s also got a handy 16 ounce marker on its glass carafe, helpful for when you want a smaller brew.

The carafe is made of borosilicate glass, making it shock resistant. The lid and casing are undeniably less beautiful than others, made of simple black matt plastic.

That plastic is, though, BPA free – reassuring if you’re worried about chemicals leaching into your coffee.

Impressively for such an inexpensive brewer, the Bean Envy model comes with an added extra: a matching milk frother. If you enjoy lattes or cappuccinos, this is a great bonus.

Even better, the milk frother comes with its own stand. Placing the two side by side vastly improves their countertop appeal.

If you’re on an economy drive, you’ll also be pleased to know that you get a spare filter as part of the package.

As a result, there’s no reason the Bean Envy shouldn’t last just as long as more expensive French presses.

It might not have the same insulating properties as stainless steel models, and there are better looking French presses out there.

But if you’re looking for a well-made brewer at a keen price, you could do far worse than the Bean Envy.

4. Starizzo Copper Finish Large French Press (8 CUP, 34 OZ)

Large French Press Coffee Maker With Beautiful Copper Finish, Premium Insulated Stainless Steel & Spout Closure For High Heat Retention, Durable - NO Glass Parts Or Filter Replacement Needed, 34 oz

See On Amazon

In stark contrast to the Bean Envy, you’d have to go a long way to find another French press that looks as good as this one.

With a gorgeous copper finish that’s also great at retaining heat, the Starizzo is a real show stopper.

Of course, it won’t be for everyone. If you have a kitchen full of stainless steel appliances, it will stick out like a sore thumb.

But in a country kitchen full of copper bottomed pans, or a sleek loft apartment with copper accents, it will look fabulous.

It’s fully lined with stainless steel and holds a generous liter of coffee (that’s 34 ounces to the imperially minded).

The large handle gives more than a nod to the style of iconic industrial designer Christopher Dresser. And its sturdy construction makes it easy and safe to carry.

The combination of copper casing and double walled stainless steel construction provides great insulation.

You can also turn the lid to close off the opening to the spout. Both these things mean the Starizzo will keep your coffee hot for at least an hour.

Beware, though: French press coffee is really best drunk soon after brewing.

The grounds will still be sitting in the carafe, so the longer you take to drink it, the greater the risk of over-extraction. That will give you unpleasant, bitter flavors.

The real advantage of a generous sized French press is that you can brew coffee for a number of people at once.

And when your French press looks as good as the Starizzo, you’ll want to show it off!

5. Osaka Large French Press with over-extraction prevention (8 CUP, 34 OZ)

Osaka French Press Coffee and Tea Maker - Patent-Pending, Vacuum Insulated Stainless Steel Mesh Filter with Over-Extraction Prevention & Thermal Shock Proof Glass, Large 8 Cup (1 Liter,34oz) (Black)

See On Amazon

This isn’t the biggest French press on the market – but it has the potential to be one of the cleverest.

Let’s start with the size. It will only hold one liter – that’s 34 ounces or eight espresso cups. Big enough for some, perhaps, but there are more generous options out there.

The reason the Osaka makes this list is that it’s attempted to deal with a problem that’s inherent to French press coffee.

That’s the way the water stays in contact with the coffee grounds the whole time.

If you fill your French press and only use some of the coffee, the rest will continue brewing. And if you leave it for too long before drinking it, you’ll end up with bitter coffee.

The Osaka introduces an air-tight mechanism that’s intended to separate the grounds from the brewed coffee.

And it almost works brilliantly. The problem is that there’s a small, concave gap where the handle joins the body of the carafe. That allows a few coffee grounds to sneak through.

If you use your French press for a refill, you’ll still get a smoother cup than with almost all other models.

But until Osaka fix the design flaw with the handle, this doesn’t quite get full marks. And if you’re likely to want more than eight small cups in one sitting, go for something bigger.

6. Coffee Gator large French press, vacuum insulated stainless steel (8 CUP, 34 OZ)

Coffee Gator French Press Coffee Maker - Thermal Insulated Brewer Plus Travel Jar - Large Capacity, Double Wall Stainless Steel - 34oz - Gray

See On Amazon

If you like to be a bit different, the Coffee Gator French press is definitely worth a look.

In shape, it’s not dissimilar to many of the other stainless steel French presses on this list. But it has one huge difference: color.

The Coffee Gator comes in an amazing array of shades – anything from somber slate grey to bright orange and rose pink.

And if you want to keep it simple, you can choose plain stainless steel. All the options are emblazoned with a funky alligator logo on the front, securing the Gator’s style credentials.

It’s made of 304 stainless steel, which Gator claims is up to a third thicker and a fifth heavier than competitors.

So if you’re as prone to dropping carafes as my husband (see #3) this could be a great choice. Just try not to dent any wooden floors…

There’s a spring-loaded double screen filter to stop coffee grounds ending up in your cup.

And the vacuum layered construction will keep your coffee hot for up to an hour longer than glass carafes. (Though you risk some very bitter flavors if you really leave your coffee inside for that long.)

If all that’s not enough, you also get a matching coffee canister, with that cute little ’gator on the lid.

This French press may have bags of style, but it’s got plenty of substance too.

It’s a good looking item too. Made of mirror-finish stainless steel, its simple design oozes industrial chic. If you’ve got a modern kitchen with sleek lines, it will fit right in.

As you’d expect with a stainless steel carafe, it will keep your coffee hot until the last cup.

8. Secura Stainless Steel Large French press (12 Cup, 50 OZ)

Secura French Press Coffee Maker, 304 Grade Stainless Steel Insulated Coffee Press with 2 Extra Screens, 50oz (1.5 Litre), Silver

See On Amazon

This handsome French press is made top to toe in finest grade 18/10 stainless steel. Its highly polished finish and sleek lines will look great in any contemporary kitchen.

The Secura is available in two sizes, one or one and a half liters. Go for the larger option if you’ve got a family of coffee lovers and want to avoid refills over breakfast.

The stainless steel body and double walled construction will keep your beverage good and hot to the last cup.

There’s also a clever innovation to keep those pesky coffee grounds out of your drink.

The Secura comes with no fewer than three filter screens. These can be stacked together to avoid even the smallest particle escaping into your drink.

It’s also easy to adjust the set-up if you’re using a coarser grind. Just unscrew the stack and remove a screen or two if you prefer. It’s easy to disassemble for thorough cleaning too.

You might be worried that with all that stainless steel you risk burns. Fortunately, the Secura features a stay-cool handle and plunger for safe operation.

This is a great quality French press where a lot of thought has gone into the design.

The only issue is that what you gain in insulation from that stainless steel carafe, you’ll lose in visibility.

So if you’re the kind of person who enjoys watching their coffee brew, look for a glass option instead.

9. Grosche Madrid Large French press (12 CUP, 51 OZ)

GROSCHE MADRID French Press Coffee and Tea Maker 1500 ml (51 fl oz)

See On Amazon

If you like a dash of art deco style, you’ll want to check out German firm Grosche’s Madrid French press.

This model has a glass carafe framed in shiny chrome with an arcing handle and chrome plunger.

Get out those Charles Rennie Mackintosh coffee cups and head right back to the 1930s.

The specifications are as good as the design. First up, there’s that carafe. It’s made from heavy duty borosilicate glass, manufactured in Germany by Schott-Duran. Turning the lid will close the spout and keep the heat in for longer.

Then there’s the dual filter system. This one’s a bit different from most. Instead of both filters being stacked together, one is in the plunger and the second in the lid.

There are also rubber grips on the feet of the frame to stop the French press sliding across your counter.

You can also use the Madrid for making tea – and the glass carafe here really gives it an edge.

A green tea will look wonderful as it expands. And if you’ve got a brew with dried flowers, it offers a real visual treat.

Perhaps the biggest selling point of this brewer though, is Grosche’s approach to corporate social responsibility.

A proportion of proceeds from sales of the Madrid go towards Grosche’s Safe Water project. This helps to provide safe drinking water for people across the world.

That’s a pretty good way of feeding your coffee habit.

10. Bodum 1932-16 Chambord Coffee Maker (12 CUP, 51 OZ)

Bodum Chambord French Press Coffee Maker, 51 Ounce, 1.5 Liter, Chrome

See On Amazon

This French Press holds a serious amount of coffee – up to 1.5 liters. That’s a whole 12 cups.

If you’ve got a household full of people who love their cup of Joe, that’s reason enough to take a look.

As with many other Bodum models, the carafe here is glass. It’s held in a shiny steel frame, with a steel lid, matt black handle, and plunger.

Imagine a French press on the table of a Parisian bistro, and you’ll probably picture something just like this.

The design is a classic, unchanged since Bodum first began manufacturing it in the 1950s.

Its long pedigree is founded on some simple elements. The steel frame and lid are coated in chrome for a stylish and hard-wearing finish.

And the glass carafe is easily removed for cleaning. You won’t need anything more than a sponge and hot, soapy water to do the job.

The toughened glass is durable but not indestructible. We had to replace our own Chambord after about 15 years when it tumbled from height onto our granite worktop.

I’ve since discovered that it’s possible to replace the carafe. If only I’d known at the time…

One downside is that it won’t insulate your coffee as well as a stainless steel carafe.

On the other hand, you’ll be able to see the coffee swirl and settle as you push down the plunger. Magic.
